Man I love myself a good drama, like one of those soap opera style situations where it’s all about he said, she said, he walked away and somebody ended up driving their car down a hill with a happy ending always magically being ensured. Well the NFL just went through a week like that with people moving, teams stacking up and others just going down a hill, in a car, with no brakes or anything to save them. Let’s get down to this because these past couple of days have been a lot of fun and there are some juicy moves to talk about.
I know all of you want to get started with the trade that shook all of the nation but no, let’s give it a second people, I feel like this still has to sink in a bit to make it more real. In the meantime, let’s talk about how a great dynasty to be became a one man show in less than one week. Do you guys remember when the Steelers had one of the most if not the most dangerous and powerful offensive trio in all of football. With Big Ben throwing the ball, Antonio Brown catching those passes and LeVeon Bell there ready to go to town with huge rushing gains there was virtually no stopping them. But then it all went downhill for Pittsburgh as LeVeon decided he was a no go in what would end up being his last season riding with the Steelers. Sure, one man’s loss is another man’s gain as James Conner stepped up big time and made sure nobody even felt the absence of Bell but LeVeon is still the top rusher in the game. Yes even better than Zeke Elliot and Saquon Barkley and we all know it’s true. LeVeon has now moved on to a team in a desperate need of a running back and decided he would go big or go home in the greatest city in the world donning the best colors, the green and white of the Jets, (yes, Jets fan here, deal with it).
As if LeVeon moving to NY wasn’t enough, before those events even went down the other big pillar of the Steelers fire power decided to bounce as well as one of the top if not the top receiver in the league Antonio Brown decided to take his massive gallons of talent to Raider nation. Maybe AB needed a new chapter with a new young QB like Derek Carr or maybe he was just fed up of being second fiddle to Big Ben in Pitt but the truth of the matter is AB is gone and it’s time to move on. The Steelers should do well off without them as they have enough fire power with young weapons to help Ben Roethlisberger try and go for at least one more run for the AFC crown before riding into the sunset but we all know it’s damn true that all this would be easier with Bell and Brown still wearing the yellow and black.
So now let’s get to the most important news in town this week. Let’s have a show of hands as to how many people fell on their asses when they saw that NY Giants stud receiver and all-around elastic man Odell Beckham Jr. decided to pack his bags and go out of all the places we could’ve all thought of to Cleveland. Yes, the most exciting wide receiver in the game decided to take his talent to the Browns. I get him, if I was him I would love the chance to take my talents somewhere where the future is more promising than the past. Then again if we think about it, the Giants are slowly but surely turning into a new version of the Browns. With an aging Eli Manning not getting any better and the Giants in an all for all cycle to get rid of all their real talent in order to either crash and burn or start a rebuild process with Saquon Barkley at the helm maybe it was time for OBJ to walk. Reuniting with former LSU teammate Jarvis Landry and having Baker Mayfield toss the ball around with former Georgia runner Nick Chubb as their top running back, go ahead and tell me this offensive unit is not one to look forward to for next season, I dare you.
Other shake ups like Nick Foles landing in Jacksonville taking over Blake Bortles’ spot who is now a free agent, Tyrann Mathiew going to the already stacked Chiefs and Mark Ingram choosing to run for the Ravens rather than the Saints also made this week one to go nuts about and that’s just the tip of the iceberg for this open market that’s slowly starting to unfold, let’s just wait to see what else will end up happening and hope for a coming season that will be all kinds of nuts.
