The Los Angeles Lakers are like the New York Yankees or New England Patriots of professional basketball. They are hated by everyone, people cherish to see their demise, besides their fans obviously and they are always on the lookout to bounce back in the biggest most blockbuster way possible. The Yankees were in a slum of sorts for the past few years after dominating baseball so what did they do, they took their checkbook out, slapped it on the table and reminded everyone they are the Yankees by signing Giancarlo Stanton. The Lakers are now on the hunt to do just that and finally get back to their winning ways. How are they willing to do this, by luring the king Lebron James to California in what could be his last great career move. Is it too far-fetched to think of Lebron sporting the Lakers uniform? I don’t honestly see why it would be and here´s why we should be gearing up to see Lebron in the West Coast sooner rather than later.
As every season goes by where the Cavs don´t end up as reigning champions of the NBA the first question that comes to mind is what will Lebron do now? Fans, media, and basketball people go crazy trying to figure out James’s next move. What people don´t take into account is the fact that this man is usually coming off yet another stellar season putting up some amazing numbers and maybe he just wants a little breathing room. The news nowadays in the basketball rings is all about how the limping Lakers are making a strong pitch for James to move to the coast and help them back to the top. As far as we´re concerned Lebron might not be even thinking about this idea and he’s just at home chilling but hey that´s the life of the best basketball player in the planet.
The Lakers fully understand that they do not have the sporting leverage to lure Lebron in. Their team, filled with young greenish players, talented but still a bit raw is not one where Lebron wants to step into and play as nanny and mentor. If they want him to move to LA they need to get him a strong supporting cast and that´s exactly what the Lakers front office has started doing. As soon as the word spread out that Kawhi Leonard was not happy in San Antonio and wanted a way out LA jumped on him and started their mission to make Leonard the first reason to make Lebron look at the Lakers as the best option. They haven´t stopped there though, Paul George is seemingly talking about opting out of his Thunder deal and heading into free agency to look for another team. Well, it just happens that the Lakers have been head over heels for George for a while now and with the idea of teaming him up with Leonard and James it sounds as too much of a good thing to let go by.
A lot of people have given immense amounts of crap to Golden State for their “super team” so will this happen with the Lakers if they land those three players? Probably but they don’t care and Lebron doesn´t care either. Just the fact that they would meet the Warriors in the conference playoff rounds and not the NBA finals should make it appealing enough for James. Sure with James moving to the West that just makes that would just make that conference that much more of a straight out war to try and be the best. The biggest bulk of the best talent in the league would all be playing in the western conference, leaving the eastern conference teams to fend for their own and pray for the best in the NBA finals.
Basketball people can´t go a day without talking about Lebron James and what he has done and what he should and will do. We need to set one thing straight though, the man has done it all for every city he has played in and I’m a firm believer that he has earned the opportunity to be able to do with his career whatever the hell he wants. He could retire right now and be in the conversation for best player ever without any hesitation. If Lebron wants to go to Los Angeles it’s because he believes that he could do with the Lakers what he did with the Heat back in the day. Make an average team great and get them a couple of championships before setting into the sunset. If James, Leonard, and George end up in the Lakers then we should gear up for some great basketball in California and the final installment of why Lebron James is the best player to ever play basketball.
