Now yes, I know, the NFL season just barely wrapped up but hey the NFL Combine is coming and that means that the season will almost be underway again. The NFL Combine is the best showcase college players on their way to the pros have to give teams enough reasons as to why they should pick them in the up coming draft. Teams also come down to check out what’s good and who could potentially be their next big rookie discovery. Now it’s not a secret that almost all teams in the league could very well benefit from a good combine scouting but where specifically should teams be looking at, let’s make this easy and break it down in positions and team’s needs.
Offensively speaking when it comes to quarterback I can think of three teams who are in dire DIRE needs of a refreshment in that spot. First the New York Giants. Look people, all those good times and memories with Eli Manning were cool, but that’s done and over with, there’s no going back. Manning is 38 and his days of glory are gone, it’s time to give Odell and Saquon a new man throwing the ball to guide them into the future. My perfect pick for them here is an easy one, Dwayne Haskins. The Ohio State man could easily be a perfect fit for a Giants offense who needs a face lift. After the Giants come the Jaguars, just like with Manning, it’s time to give up on Bortles, he sucks, he suuuucks. Now as the news have gone around, the Jaguars could be in the front runner position to land Nick Foles, the Eagles hero which would be a nice addition and it would make sense. The Jaguars need a tricky yet explosive kind of guy commanding their offense, not someone as lame as Blake Bortles, if they weren’t to land Foles the Oklahoma stud Kyler Murray could be a very good developmental pick to take.
Last but not least the Dolphins. Miami has so many needs to cover but finding someone suitable to be able to get rid of Ryan Tannehill is a must. Kyler Murray could be a perfect fit for this team but in order to land him the Dolphins would have to trade up and are they really in a position to do so? It’s the Dolphins, of course they are not, they’ll end up screwing themselves over, Will Grier could be a decent pick as well.
Moving on, the other top spot teams are on the look out for in this upcoming draft is wide receiver. With the free agent market hosting big names like Golden Tate, Michael Crabtree, Demaryius Thomas and of course the biggest one of them all Antonio Brown teams are also looking at the combine to see if they can strike gold for a lower price. The Steelers are in dire need to find a replacement for AB, I’m not saying he’s out there in the draft and will burst into the team and league with the same impact as #84 but maybe looking at Brown’s cousin Marquise Brown wouldn’t be that bad of an idea, maybe they have a gene that runs in the family. The Patriots are another team that need to find Edelman some help, he can’t catch all of Brady’s passes, even if he wanted to. The Patriots have the last pick in the first round of this draft but with this draft being so defense oriented they should be able to snag up something good.
Now on the defensive side of the ball, man this class is loaded with some heavy hitting defensive talents. The edge rusher category is where all the true talent in this draft is at and where most teams need some help ASAP. Guys like Nick Boza who could very well go as number one pick in the draft Rashan Gary and Josh Allen are in everyone’s favorites list. They have star quality in their playing and they are the most pro ready defenders out there. The Jets for example could benefit very well from someone like Rashan Gary since they haven’t had a decent edge rusher since the early 2000’s. The Raiders too could seriously benefit because after trading Khalil Mack away, well you remember how it all went for them.
Other teams like the Panthers, Colts, who although had a very decent to good defense last season need to stock up and gear up for an upcoming season that has them playing some very strong offensive teams and the Packers who have their top man Clay Matthews hitting the free agent market should be looking to either trade up in the draft or pray that the football gods can leave some A class players hanging around there for when its their turn to pick. Whichever way it goes, I can’t wait for football to be back.
