We’re moving on people, on to the next round of the NFL playoffs people and boy do these matchups bring the heat. We had some thrilling games go down in the Wild Card round with a couple of shockers that we honestly can say didn’t see coming that much. Let’s start off with the Cowboys, they knew they weren’t going to have it easy against a team with proven playoff pedigree like the Seahawks. For a second there it looked like Seattle was going to ride out of Dallas with the W but Zeke Elliot, Dak Prescott and that stunning Dallas defense had other plans in mind. We have to call this game for what it was, it was the Zeke Elliot show. He carried the Cowboys to a victory that wasn’t really thought off if we can all be honest. Then the Eagles, man is Nick Foles clutch in the playoffs or what? I love Carson Wentz, he has all the skills to be a top caliber qb in the league but if I had to ride with one guy forever in the playoffs, sign me up in the Nick Foles train. He made the Bears defense, that Khalil Mack unstoppable unit look like any other defense and helped the defending champions have a chance to go for it one more time. So with the divisional round coming up, who will make it out alive?
On Saturday afternoon we will be treated to a game that could well be the best game out of all of the four matchups considering team talent. The Colts defense, who has not shown any ease into tearing up opposing offenses will have their absolute biggest test of the season, stopping Patrick Mahomes and company. If there’s something clear about this game it’s that it will be a knock out brawl with the scoreboard going through the roof. Andrew Luck’s offensive line has mastered the art of protecting their qb giving him plenty of room to do whatever he pleases with the ball and the Chiefs defense, well it’s not the smoothest when rushing the qb. I’m edging this game out in favor of the Chiefs based on a couple of things, one, the fans at Arrowhead will make Luck and the Colts feel like they are in hell on earth, especially if a chance for the AFC Title game is on the line and two, Patrick Mahomes is too good to be true right now and he will carry the Chiefs to victory.
I’m calling this right now without a shadow of a doubt for Saturday night’s matchup between the Rams and Cowboys. Goodbye Cowboys, it’s been good but that’s it for you. The Rams, especially more if they have a rested and prepared Todd Gurley ready to go will be the pivotal difference to the outcome of this game. The Cowboys will rely heavily on Elliot again to carry the burden of their offensive powers but if he is outmatched by that wrecking ball that is the Aaron Donald led defensive line then Jerry Jones’ boys will not really stand a chance. Look we have to be honest here, Dak Prescott is not anywhere near to Jarred Goff’s level and the receiver core the Rams has is miles away in talent from what Dalls has to offer. The Cowboys defense will have their hands full but it will not be enough, go home Cowboys, we’ve had enough of you for the season.
On Sunday I am going all out here and calling it for what it is, the San Diego Chargers will beat the New England Patriots. I’m not saying this because I hate the Pats, I’m saying this because Phillip Rivers and the Chargers deserve this more. The Patriots are here out of pure luck, because their division sucks ass. The Chargers on the other hand were handing losses left and right and dominating like if Tomlinson was back running their routes. Ingram and Boza should be looking at having a field day with Brady and company and if we get some of that MVP caliber worthy Rivers talent for San Diego, I’m not crazy to say that the Patriots will be staying home watching the action on tv.
Last but not least, Nick Foles and the Eagles, Drew Brees and the Saints, who would you pick? I’m going for the legacy more than the hype. All around the Saints are more than stacked, starting by the fact that they have one of the best qb’s to ever grace the field playing for one more shot at winning it all. Drew Brees is light years away talent wise from Nick Foles. The Saints backfield with Ingram and Kamara are what most other teams aspire to have and while the Eagles are again this year a feel-good story, the stick is falling short and their final chapter will happen this Sunday. With all this said, should Nick Foles be given a better chance next season, not just be there to save everyone’s asses? I believe so, but that’s for next season.
